A Special Thanks Well we dodged another bullet … Hurricane Katrina was supposed to pass to our north, but turned southwest and passed southeast of us. From the radar images, it looked like the storm came off the mainland near the Rodgers River area. Everglades City and Chokoloskee Island faired great … not even a power outage. The wind came from the best direction it could have. About the only affects that I have seen are a few shredded tarps and lots of downed palm fronds. Katrina moved away from us pretty quickly, but I am sure our friends in the Lower Keys took a beating.. The fishing has been absolutely great here recently as is the norm for the summer. The snook bite has been steady (big snook) as has the tarpon. The redfish have been as numerous all summer as they are in Sep/Oct … However, the bite has very early in the morning and short lived due to the heat of the day. We have been leaving before daybreak and fishing “until the bite stops”. Katrina forced the cancellation of this weekend’s trips, but I will be out there Monday to see what affects she had on the fishing. However, the water in the basin at Chokoloskee looks like chocolate milk … very turbid out there I am sure… The fishing as the stormed neared was excellent … the snook and small tarpon were going nuts feeding on anything within reach. A couple of new things … we had a cancellation in the cabin, “The Kayak Shack”, for the weekend after next. I have always wanted to do a Ebay auction, but had nothing to sell. I woke up this morning at my typical 4:00 unable to get back to sleep. So, I tried the Ebay “thang” and set an auction up to rent the cabin for those three days… the minimum bid is set at the cost of maid service, linens and utilities. It will make a great and inexpensive weekend get-away … barring another hurricane … The cabin has a boat slip so bring your boat or use my skiff/kayaks. I have also tried my hand at making a DVD of some of the angler’s trips for them to bring home. We have gotten some good footage of big snook, tarpon, goliath grouper and sharks. Snook Season Opens September 1st …. We still have couple of spots available for the October trip to the Lower Keys … Four days of fishing for bonefish out of the kayaks … October 4th – 8th. We are going to fishing South Biscayne Bay for bones in the 24th and 25th of October also… I would like to thank my Texas Snook Anglers who fish the big snook this summer ...
