Everglades City, Chokoloskee and Everglades National Park

Everglades City

A Cold Blast February in the Everglades City area is a blast … sometimes a cold blast. Heck it might even get below 50 degrees!! Cold!! That may not sound cold to most folks, but it very cold here … for me and the fish. February means lots of trout action on the outside area grass flats. You can expect to catch a boat load during this time, but you will have to fend of the Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, jacks and bluefish. If it gets really cold, wait for the rising tide in the afternoon for the best action. The backcountry snook’in should be very good as well. The biggest fish can be found warming themselves in the dark muddy areas of the backcountry. Absolute stealth is needed to get close to these big snook without spooking them. Plan your approach them carefully. A bit of shrimp on the bottom is a good technique for many February if snapper, black drum and redfish are favored. February in Everglades City a blast in other ways than just fishing.. Feb 2, 3 and 4 is the annual Everglades City Seafood Festival and February 24th is the 3rd Annual Everglades Kayak Fishing Paddle-In. This is a fun, family oriented social event with good folks, good food, a raffle, a fish fry and even a kayak fishing class on the 23rd.
