Everglades National Park - Flamingo

Flamingo

Fishing on Sunday at Flamingo was great for those hunting the silver king. Lots of the big tarpon and lots of folks jumping them on both flies and plugs. Everybody but my anglers -- all of our fish had lockjaw.... On Monday the first cold front in a few weeks blew in and made finding the big tarpon difficult, but not impossible. We jumped one on fly and another on a plug during the day. On Tuesday the weather conditions continued to deteriorate with winds howling and water temps that had dropped more than 10 degrees in some areas. We ran up into sheltered waters and found more than a few redfish in shallow, clear mud creeks and coves. We also found some very large laid-up snook that spooked away just about when we came within range. Something to look forward to. For the next few days we'll be looking for quiet creeks that still have clear water. If the wind will lay down a bit we'll probably go after the tarpon again. Maybe by the weekend the weather will co-operate. Tight Lines
