Fishing in Ecuador

Salinas

It has been a quiet couple of fishing days so far. Windy conditions and water at 78F are testament that our summer is out in force. Around a dozen boats have been going out these days and all have reported activity, even though it is not too much. May and June are always like this. This is usually the time when we find the most Wahoo during the year around Salinas. Up to 80 per day sometimes. It is however slower on the marlin department. Even though we don´t see as many as we hope for, the ones that do show up are the biggest ones of the year. Just like the Black Marlin our good friend Capt. Fouad Sultan lost on board the ¨Sultana¨ last week. It was surely around the 700 or 800 pound mark. It struck a naked ballyhoo in about 300`of water with two big leaps before letting itself loose. That one will surely be remembered in the weeks to come and we are looking forward to get some of that action and try to find the Big One. The next coming weeks we are also expecting a strong Tuna season. This is when we see those giant 300 pound Big Eye circling around our northern coastline In any case, the Wahoo should be a handful and give us plenty of exercise, in case we miss the Marlin.
