Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Homosassa

Changing weather makes grouper hungry off Homosassa We have had some real good fishing weather off Homosassa the last two days. Cloudy and windy. Fronts moving through and weather changing by the minute. Less than perfect boating weather since the wind made the bay pretty choppy and rough. Seems like grouper catching is better with changing weather. Louis Sanchez was my guest on board the Pro-Line center console. We were trying for grouper in shallow water casting plugs across known rock formations. The Lowrance GPS with Differential puts us with 15 feet of our waypoints and eliminates any guess work. The GPS is a great time saver in going to and from destinations by having true courses in degrees to navigate by. Only a few minutes had passed when Louis put the first keeper on ice. The wind was gusting between 15-20 MPH and some white caps were forming. This did not dampen our spirits as this trip had been planned for some time. Before the day was out Louis caught 12 grouper, keeper the four largest up to 7 pounds. The biggest one tried his best to hide into a rock cavern, but Louis pulled him away from his safe haven in quick order. I managed to pull in 5 grouper with two keepers, my largest around 6 pounds. You know it is not nice to out catch the guest and so it happened to end up that way. The winds increased to 20-30 MPH and we decided to head in around 2:00 PM. The beauty of our area is that the flats are very shallow and even when the wind is blowing a gale you can still fish.
