Fishing Report for New York - Long Island North Shore

The Long Island, New York game fish season is just warming up. The Striped Bass are in solid in the Western Bays. Capt. John MacMurray reports schoolie Bass fish taking flies in Jamaica Bay. The fish are thick in Littleneck taking bait, plastics and flies. Hempstead Harbor is holding Bass also. Fish the outgoing. Things are starting in Coldspring and Northport. The Nissequogue River is showing Bass and shad. Freshwater guys report trout in stocked areas and some sea runs in the upper Connetquot and Nissequogue Rivers. Captain Todd Calitri is fishing the middle keys and is seeing plenty of big Florida Tarpon. Weakfish have begun to show in the fish markets. This with the lilacs indicated that these fish are in at he Shinnecock Cannal and the Great South Bay. If you haven’t gotten your boat ready or made a date with a charted guide you will miss some of the best, light tackle Bass Fishing of the year. Captain Robin Calitri
