Long Island Report From Captain Robin Hot and Heavy It has been a varied and interesting few weeks since I last wrote. The fishing is holding up but you must be wiling to change up to keep the fish coming. One June 20 Grandpa Bill Herzig took his three grand kids out for a day on Huntington and Northport Bays. Ashley, Allison and Andrew all caught schoolie blues and Bass. RattleTraps with teasers were the key. On June 23 Brendan Cuccinello, Scot Calitri and I fished the Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department fluke tournament. Although we had two fluke over 5 pounds we placed 4th or so. Congrats to Steve Conroy and Capt. Herb Hahn on a job well done. Hats off to Sean Conlon for running the show with fellow fireman Dan. Spro type bucktails with spearing bait worked well for us of Smithtown. On 7/2 the father and son team of Joel and Charlie Weiss were out on Csicagain in Huntington Bay. We picked away until dusk with some small bass and blues and then the eruption began with blues and bass all over the top. It was to be a short, evening charter but Joel and Charlie wouldn’t quit so they caught a ton of fish and were late for dinner. Priorities!! Cape Cod Tuna I fished with son Scot on the old Csicagain, Maritime skiff on &/6. We launched at Green Harbor and fished south. When we hit 8 feet of water it was tuna of all sized all over the top. We were throwing flies and didn’t hook up but it was a blast. We also saw a Mola Mola and a large GREAT WHITE SHARK less that five feet from the boat.
