Panama City/NW Florida Please refer to my February 4, 2006 "Choosing a fishing guide". Had several trips last week. Hit the usual spots. First to answer the big question: are the spanish here? I'm sticking with my original prediction of on or about the 20th of March. Five days of Southeast wind has warmed up the water and everywhere we go I have seen schools of minnows and bait. With the full moon later this week and in combination with the weather my prediction should be pretty close...so get ready. Steam plant is still the place to be for action. Lot's of jacks, ladies and big sailcats for those wanting a pull on the fly or conventional. There are some trout left but there are also a lot of fisherman taking them out. We got into a nice school of reds earlier this week. Ate for a little while and moved on, all in the upper end of the slot. Bayous and creeks are still holding fish with live shrimp being your best bet. Moving out into the gulf and deeper areas in the bay. You can catch nice whiting in the bay fishing bottom around the bridge. A few along with some scattered pompano are being caught in the surf. Cobia have started showing up but you can bet it's still about two weeks from getting red hot. If you want to catch some fish call me if you want to go for a boat ride call one of the other guides in the area. See you on the water. Capt. JP
