Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Panama City/NW Florida Trying to keep it real... The west wind has been blowing for ten days now. This blows the water to our area from Texas and Louisiana which means not much changes. We need some southeast wind for a few days to get things started. Up in West Bay we have been catching a lot of trout but not a lot of keepers. Some flounder and reds are being caught on my live bait trips and some decent catches on the fly. The last couple of days I have notice a definite change in the big bay for the better. We had several schools of fish swim under the boat this morning that were couple hundred or more in each school. These were mostly blues and ladies with some spanish mixed in. If you know where to get them the blues are running four and five pounds in some spots along with big spanish. If you want to catch big spanish in the summer about the only way to do it is to chum. All in all, I look for big changes (for the better) to take place over the next couple of weeks. Some of the interesting stuff....saw two tarpon rocked near the pass Thursday morning...caught a banded rudder fish in the bay and have started seeing a few bonita in the bay. Look for things to heat up in the very near future. If your a local and read this report, there are things happening to our local boat launches and I need your help to voice our dislike before things get out of hand. Please send me an email from this site and let me know that you will be willing to help fight to keep our right to launch our boats in St. Andrews. Thank you and tight lines. JP
