The topwater action in the bay has been very productive the last week. We have been fishing the flats and creek mouths in both East Bay and West Bay. Bone colored Super Spook Jr's and Skitter Walks have been the lure of choice. I like to remove the factory hooks and replace them with Gamakatsu treble hooks. The back hook is replaced with a Gamakatsu feathered treble. This adds extra action when you pause the lure when a big trout is popping at it. We have been targeting the Reds after the sun gets up and we can see in the sandy holes on the flats. Our lure of choice for this is either a Gulp 3" Shrimp or a Gulp Sinking Minnow rigged on a 3/0 Gamakatsu worm hook. The key to this is making a very suttle presentation and letting the bait sink to the bottom about a foot in fromt of the fish.
