Fishing remained very good despite the cooler than average temperatures. Trout were concentrated into deeper canals with slightly warmer areas. Nice trout averaging 16-20 inches. There were a few redfish caught around the docks from the Manatee River. Pompano showed in excellent numbers near New Pass and Blind Pass. Shrimp and sandfleas were the best live baits. Pompano Jigs were also providing good hookups. Bluefish and small mackerel were also roaming the beaches following small shiner bait. As always, the Sheepshead are abundant around any structure, bridge and docks. Plenty of nice tripletail were hovering around crab buoys throughout the shallow gulf. Large shrimp were the best bait. Hogfish were covering hard bottom in 40-60 feet along with porgies and mangrove snapper. February targeted species will be pompano, permit, sheepshead, and large trout. Warmer water temperatures should bring snook out of their wintering areas.
