Happy New year from Florida Keys Fly Fishing. It's nice to see the islands busy once again. After Irma we are finally getting a much needed economic shot in the arm. This time of year we usually get some cold fronts and the key to being successful is flexibility. If you find water 73 degrees or warmer you can target tarpon, bonefish, and permit. If it dips below that you are much better off looking for redfish, barracuda, shark and jacks. It's that simple. {%image_id=57456%} Night time tarpon fishing in the winter can be phenomenal from Key Largo to Key West. Big shrimp come to the surface on outgoing tides and the resident tarpon go bonkers. I like to get there during slack tide because the beginning of the tide is most productive. Once the current gets ripping it's hard to get the fly where it needs to be. {%image_id=57454%} If you are interested in fly fishing the Florida Keys visit http://flyfishingthefloridakeys.com/ or call me at 3053409863.
