South Biscayne Bay Flats Fishing

South Biscayne Bay flats fishing has remained consistent since my last report. Permit fishing was tops on the list with some bonefish and shots at baby tarpon. Bob Olufs and Carl Fortney got in on some rolling baby tarpon action and Carl was able to put 2 in the air, nearly landing one. He used a small lure and watched for the fish to roll before making his presentation. The slick calm condition made not spooking them a challenge. Later in the morning Bob got his crab in front of a nice 15 lb permit that was working its way up a channel with about 20 other permit. Watching the permit slurp the crab off the surface, Bob and Carl were amazed at the sight of this school of permit in the aquarium like conditions.{%image_id=11895%} Later in the day, Carl released this 18 lb permit.{%image_id=11896%} My friend John from our local favorite Chinese restaurant landed his first bonefish that weighted 7 lbs. John also learned how difficult bonefish can be when trying to place a live shrimp well ahead of large schools of fish in slick calm water. We also had shots at tarpon and permit but it just didn't happen for us that day. John missed one quick tarpon bite and we just could not seem to get a good angle on the permit.{%image_id=11897%}{%image_id=11894%}
