Week ending April 14, 2018 The water is back up to 78 degrees. Windy conditions this past week made it tough at times to get out. Tarpon rolling near Jugg Creek Shoal in Charlotte Harbor. North of Matlacha Sound. Lots of hook ups. Plenty of whitebait outside Part island in 2' of water. Nice size. Still, on the in-coming tide, just outside Captiva Pass along the edge of the northern sandbar, Spanish Mackerel make their daily runs at baitfish schools resulting this week in some catches up to 30". White bait broadcasted boat side will bring them to you. Casting Silver Spoons and slabs is deadly also. For Trout and Pompano, we are still working the sandbar and grass flat edges where the structure starts to dive from 4.5'/ 5' to deeper channel waters. Using a 4' leader under a popping cork, ¼ oz. painted egg sinker covered in glitter over an Owner 4/0 J hook on 30 lb. mono leaders baited with a live shrimp. Small schools of Tarpon can now be seen in the deep pass holes on your sounders with reports of them taking cut baits from bottom or channel fishing.
