Christmas is fast approaching. Hopefully everyone reading this made the "nice" list and Santa will bring you at least a new Rod & Reel , if not a Flats Boat with a new 4 stroke on the back.... My early Christmas present was getting to be on the water for 8 days in row since my last report. I went over to Indian Pass and ran Redfish/Trout trips for 6 days , loaded up the truck and came back to Grayton/Seagrove to fish the Gulf for a couple days. I took the same Father & Son team out at the Pass on Sat. that I took in the Gulf here on Sun.. They came down just to fish and wanted to experience as many different angling options as possible in 2 days. I did a pretty good job of showing 'em a diversity of fishing experiences in a weekend. We started out trying to sight fish Redfish with a heavy overcast that made seeing the fish tough. We still had quit a few shots at good fish and my anglers put some in the boat as well. {%image_id=23952%} That's whats making all those mud trails ! We went and chased the trout in the afternoon under what turned into a beautiful day with a fairly decent bite of mostly bigger fish. My folks didn't want to keep any but they probably caught a couple dozen. {%image_id=23953%} Another one in the boat The next day in the Gulf back at Grayton started out blowy and cool so we started late and enjoyed a perfect winter afternoon of fishing. We started out chasing Flounders with good success and then ran offshore to catch ( and release) Red Snapper. The dang things are so thick I believe Ray Charles could take the boat out on a calm day and find one. {%image_id=23954%} One of dozens we tussled with. Out a little further to chase the amberines and.. what do know, They were hot too. ! {%image_id=23956%} A great board on a beautiful December day. We weren't the only fishers chasing the Jacks - The landlord came by to collect a little rent as well-- {%image_id=23955%} Even in the middle of winter you gotta pay the rent and loose a fish the landlord every now and then Monday the East wind started blowing again and the Gulf kicked up a bit so we came in early but not before my 2 anglers got a limit of the Jacks and a bunch of bluefish. {%image_id=23957%} Not bad for a 3 hr trip in December! I have a fellow from the NE part of the country that has decided the "Pass" is the place to kick back , relax and maybe even catch a fish or 2. This gentleman spent 6 nights in the bunkhouse and we got out on the water 5 days in row with varied conditions and catch rates. The 1 day we didn't really fish I showed him how to hog oysters so we he had dinner treats every night to go along with his Trout or Redfish dinners off the grill. He had such a good time he is coming back in the Spring and bringing his Dad-- {%image_id=23951%} In between cigar smokin', oyster eatin' and kickin' back on the deck there is always a fish to catch ! Merry Christmas to all, and a very fishy New Year too ! Capt Larry Pentel DeadFish
