Northeast winds

Northeast winds and a full moon have created high high tides. These high tides can make fishing difficult. Fish and bait just have too many places to go that are normally inaccessible to them. These winds have been blowing for about a month now with only an ocassional break so you better be in a position to take advantage of those good days. When I have been able to get out and fish I've been throwing a fly. I've been having a lot of luck with a Todd's Wiggle Minnow starting at day break up until about 10AM. This fly has a lot of action that snook seem to crazy for. The other morning we had a break in the wind and I went out throwing the minnow. On about my 3rd cast I had my first strike from a snook. To make a long story short I wound up landing 3 snook, losing 2 when the hook pulled when they jumped. I must have had 30 strikes from snook that morning. At times you could see 5 or 6 snook hitting the fly, one after the other. Unfortunately I had to leave the action because I had a 10:30 appointment. {%image_id=6556%} I ahd a charter last week and the fishing was on the slow side but steady. The big fish of the day, 28 1/2"-10 1/2 lb redfish, that was taken on a live shrimp fished on a jig head. Lot's of black drum are comming from the Matazas Inlet area. Reds are starting to show on the flats. Tarpon have been in the Tamoka basin. This latest blow and the cooler weather may be enough to move the tarpon south.
