Flamingo, Shark River area, fishing report Fishing this week on Wed and Thursday was quite good out of Flamingo. On Wednesday the first cast of the day brought in a small redfish in Whitewater Bay and the remainder of the day brought more reds, speckled trout, snook and an assortment of other species, including a small bull shark about 5' long. Water temps were 77degrees first thing in the morning with crystal clear conditions inside ranging to murky at Gulf-side river mouths. Lots of small bait was noted along the Gulf side of the 'Glades, mostly still too small to castnet with anything other than a glass minnow net.... On Thursday the same conditions prevailed but the fishing was even better. Both of my anglers caught and released snook up to 12lbs, lots of speckled trout, and a tarpon apiece in the 40lb range (one of the tarpon didn't wait to be released being a bit impatient...) We saw lots of tarpon and snook gorging on the small baits and that action should only improve as the bait matures in the next few weeks. Along with the snook and tarpon action we also released 7 or 8 sharks at the boat from four to seven feet in length. Still no sign of the first mackeral runs but they should be happening shortly as well. Tight Lines
