Summer fishing has been getting better each day. Flamingo has been seeing very good numbers of snook from around the islands to the coastlines. People often ask when is the best time for snook and my answer is now. Warm, tropical temperatures are keeping them on the move and active. Artificial lures work well for them and I like throwing bucktail jigs with plastic trailers and topwater and subsurface hardbaits. Color is not as important as vibration or sonic attraction. Lures with some rattles and flash certainly have an advantage. Work them by jerk-stop and continue, do not let them sit idle for too long. Expect many mystery fish to bite. Trout, snapper, tarpon, jacks, and even goliath groupers are suckers for a well-placed snook lure. If it is weedy as it usually is in summer, go weedless with a jerbait or swimming plug with single hooks.
