Hot Fishing

This is the time of year to go fish. Few boats and the bite is on in the backcountry. Sure it's hot and sometimes there are those inevitable afternoon storms but the gamble is worth the price. The tarpon and snook bite continues steady. At Flamingo Ron Peters caught seven snook, two Goliath, and a tarpon. He had a blast and said the action was incredible. Michael Wright got into a sawfish that went about seven feet with bill and two reds, all sightfished. The fall fishing will be spectacular. We have had lots of rain to keep flushing and cool surface waters. The Gulf has had good action with snapper and floating tails. Keep on the lookout. Some regulars are also reporting a good permit bite offshore and inshore. Many times a rare mackerel will also be around. Expect lots of jack crevalles. They are very dependable and are lots of fun. I like throwing jigs with plastic tails or subsurface hard baits.
