Transition into Spring

Winter fishing has felt like spring most of the days. It has been warm with mixed bag catches. Slams and grand slams of snook, redfish, trout, and tarpon have been recorded. Even some of the summer fish like the permit and tripletail have been found. Some large tarpon have also been found laid up in shallow salt lakes in solitude. It has been a very interesting winter but soon we will push into our spring transition. In the creeks snook will be warming up as well. Take advantage of open season and target them. This is sometimes the only option on windy days. Take out the plugs and jigs because these fish are also getting ready to spawn. Lately the Goliath grouper have been so hungry they've also been getting on our line. Is that a problem? Boat check: Flares and PFD's. Open your safety kits and check the expiration date on flares, Extinguishers, and other time sensitive gear. Look at your life preservers and check for wear and tear. Make sure the straps are good and everything buckles up snug. For automatics check the indicators and bring extra CO2 replacements. Be safe and see you on the water.
