Double Header Sailfish off Port Everglades

Last week, I got a call from Alex Beauchemin, a longtime customer from Montreal, and we were able to setup a trip on short notice. Before leaving Port Everglades Inlet on Saturday, we bought a load of goggle eyes and pilchards from the bait boat and headed out under beautiful blue skies. The wind was out of the southeast at 10 to 15 knots and I decided to go north in search of blue water. We found some nice water by the Steeple and we set up our first drift in 250'. We had a few lackluster bites, but no results. On the next drift, we set up a little deeper, this time in 350' and a little further north of the steeple. We deployed 2 goggle eyes on the kite, 1 deep goggle eye and 3 pilchards on the top of the water column. When we drifted into 225', we caught a nice kingfish on the deep gog and also a mahi on one of the surface baits. As we approached 180', both kite baits were taken simultaneously. But our double header sailfish only produced one release, but it was Alex's first ever sail! {%image_id=36152%} {%image_id=36153%} After that drift, we trolled back to Port Everglades and caught 2 more mahi to finish our trip!
