February Fishing is Good! A lot of times, our February fishing slows down. This year it slowed down a little, but it is still real good. The King Mackerel moved in. Most fish that you catch trolling on spoons and strips on the wire line or downriggers, were small. Live baiting produced fish in the 15 lb to 35 lb range. The Sail fishing did slow down, but we managed to one here and a double there the past week or two. We did catch 5 on Saturday and then go Sword fishing that night. It was rough in the Gulfstream with the wind blowing 15 to 20 knots all day and night. We only got two baits outs when the first one gets bit. It turned out to be a 6 foot shark which we released. A little later we catch one Swordfish and miss another one. With the seas 5 to 8 feet we called it a night and chugged home. The Sword fishing has been red hot on the nights that are calm enough to get out there. Last week we were averaging catching 4 fish a night and getting 5 to 8 bites a night. We had 2 over 200 lbs and one over 100 lbs. Lots of releases on the fish that were still alive and well. On Friday we went grouper trolling and caught 3 in the first 15 minutes, one Gag Grouper and two Black Groupers. I had been hearing reports that there were a lot around and I had to try it! Amberjacks, Sharks and Groupers are biting on the wrecks. We’ve been out there almost every day and quite a few nights for the past 3 weeks and I’m loving it!
