Fort Lauderdale, FL - Offshore

July 2006 Mixed bag of fish and weather The fishing the past two weeks has been decent one day and slow the next day. The Bonitos have moved in along with the King mackerels that were already here. They bite really good one day and the next day we can only find a couple. Usually the current has a little to do with it, but the Bonito and King Mackerel have been here today and gone tomorrow and that back again. The Mahi-mahi (Dolphin fish) have been around, but mostly really small fish. The legal length is 20 inches and larger and most of these fish have been under that. There have been lots around offshore which is a really good sign and fun to catch and release. Every now & then you catch a gaffer up to 30 lbs. There are always a few Wahoo around the floating debris and the weedlines. We did manage to catch a couple the past two weeks. The wrecks have produced a few Amberjacks. We were expecting some Warsaw Groupers around this full moon, but so far we have been unable to get any to bite and when we do get a bite they like to get back in the wreck and “hole up.” We eventually end uyp breaking the line when they do this. The Swordfishing was excellent last week. We went out twice and caught 2 fish one trip and 3 fish the next trip. The largest was 150 lbs and we released the smaller fish. With 5 fish caught out of 7 bites (one broke off) I would say that it is red hot right now. With these weak tropical waves moving through, It makes for a few good days and the a few wet days. No matter what, we always fish hard and have fun trying. Catch-em-up, The Lady Pamela Crew
