Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Saltwater Fishing Report

Just got back from my summer time visit with the family in New England. I had enough mountains, trees and deer til next year, give me my ocean! We went outside the inlet, between storms, the last few days. In between bonitas and lightning we ran into the harbor to yank on a few jack crevalles and barracudas. The bites were instant using live pilchards. Most fish were between 5 and 10 pounds so we used light tackle in order to get some extended time out of the battles. We did get a few larger Cudas and saw a few Tarpon too. The word is that the Tarpon are biting in the port at night. This is the time of year that the Snook stack up in the inlets. My favorite routine is to drift live shrimp or pilchards with the outgoing tide after sunset. Remember to release them until the season opens again. If you get into the boats drifting the inlet and the anglers fishing off the jetty be sure to give everyone enough room to do their thing. Its a tight situation and someone in there that gets too close to the rocks or decides to anchor up in the path of the drift can ruin it for all. Sea Ya! Captain Ron
