The weather has been great but the fishing is good. The bait has been thin in the area and as any good angler knows, where there's bait ther's fish! It's not that you are catching nothing but this is when local knowledge sure helps. We are getting into bites but it is making me work harder to look good. Since the northeast winds died off the harbor has lost the mackerel bite that was hot a week or two ago. Don't fret, as soon as it blows again they will return. By the time you are reading this it might be happening. The jacks are still scattered. I can tell because the scraps at my filet table are making it to the bottom of the canal. There has been a few huge tarpon feasting on dolphin carcasses though. Its a blast watching them come up slowly and vacuum in a slow sinking skin. At any time the next front will turn things on again. This is the norm this time of year. If you are lucky enough to be on the water when the weather pushes a wad of fish past our inlet you'll think you're in another country that never saw a fishing rod before. It can be great.
