The winter continues to move in. We are starting to see a showing of new fish and bait in the area. Schools of small minnows are moving in the inlet and up the canals. Packs of jacks are feasting from below. Most are small but the occasional brute pops in. Some mornings when I get to the boat the docks are full of bait that end up dry docked after escaping the jaws from below. In the harbor and near the inlet the spanish mackerel are biting again. This is also the time of year that a mixed bag can be had dropping baits in the deep. Sheepshead, african pompano and snapper will take turns bending the rod. Lots of red grouper jump the bait too but most are shorts and go back. Offshore the sailfish bite is building. Still one great day filled in with a good and slow one. A few more cold fronts and a peak in jan/feb should be the pattern. Sea Ya! Captain Ron Mallet
