Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Saltwater Fishing Report

I just got back in town after a few weeks in the New England area. Hot there too, and the Fluke were biting! While I was gone I did keep in touch with a few boats that were taking out the calls I got and I was able to back up the reports this week. LOTS of Bonita's. There are a few decent Kingfish mixed in with them too. We saw lots of small Blackfin Tuna busting the baits all around us but they were tuned in on small fish and would eat our pilchards. The Dolphin are further out and very scattered. I haven't gone after them because I let everyone know the chances are 50/50 and the cost of fuel makes this a more expensive trip. No takers so I can't give you my outlook. The smaller Snappers, Yellowtail and Lanes, are eating well on the bottom. An occasional Mutton but mostly smaller fish. You can get a dinner if you pay attention and fish hard though. Over the next few months you can expect this type of action. A few suprise great days thrown in and lots of heat. The weekday traffic is light and gives a better shot at finding that Dolphin school and keeping the action going for a while without others blowing them out. I just had a video copy sent to me of the TV show we did back in May. It looks pretty good. Some nice Sailfish action, which came as good luck with cameras onboard, and being a but out of Sailfish season. If you have The Outdoor Channel HD, watch for it. It will air the week of August 5. The series is titled "The Professional's" and it is based on captains and guides inviting each other out to experience a different type of fishing as seen from a clients view.
