February 1, 2013 Ft Lauderdale sharks Fishing Fort Lauderdale Captain Darin and I were out today on the Lady Pamela II with guests David, Anthony, and John from New Jersey. This was a great group of guys that were hoping for some big shark fishing action. We positioned the boat in about 350 feet of water in an area that we pretty frequently catch sharks. We made several drifts with the north running current and only had one hit, but no fish. Finally, there was a huge hit and the rod just about bent in half. This was a big fish and we were not sure what it was. Twenty minutes later a sandbar shark weighing close to 200 lbs. came struggling up behind the boat. Sandbar sharks migrate south from as far north as Cape Cod and this is the first one we've caught so far this winter. After some pictures of the catch and high-fives all around, the fish was released to fight another day. {%image_id=31260%} February 2, 2013 The Lady Pamela II sportfishing boat was out on a full 8 hour charter today, which gave our anglers the opportunity to fish both on the troll and on the bottom for a variety of different species. We trolled back and forth along the third reef edge, zig-zagging in and out from 90 to 200 feet of water. Our go to baits today were fresh bonito strips rigged behind sea witch feathers. We ran these baits both at the surface and down to about 60 feet behind planer boards. The fish definitely liked our bait choices as our anglers landed 8 mahi-mahi, a kingfish, and 2 blackfin tunas. The trolling highlight though was the 2 wahoos that smashed the surface baits. The singing of the reels made by these rocketing fish sure woke up the crew! This excellent fishing trip was not over yet though, as we moved inshore for a little bottom fishing. We drifted into a red hot fishing spot; red because it was full of red snappers. When the lines came in for the last time, the fish cooler was brimming with 15 good-sized reds, all over 20". This was just another great Ft. Lauderdale fishing day! {%image_id=31259%} Tight Lines Capt David Ide 954 761 8045 www.ladypamela2.com
