Good Live Bait Maximizes Tough Conditions

Since my last report, fishing around the Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale area was again a challenge due to the condition we've had recently with a south current, or at times, no current. Regardless, for all our trips, we always buy live goggle eyes from the bait boat before leaving the inlet. More than likely with some lively bait you know some predator will come to look at your presentation and often it will produce some fish. Most of our trips we had enough wind to fly our kite so we like to have 2 live baits on the kite and some down deep. We've also been slow trolling our baits and gotten our share of kingfish and a few nice mahi. Again, we're not catching fish in big numbers but for a half-day trip, we've been rewarded with some fish! {%image_id=41987%} {%image_id=41988%} {%image_id=41989%} Our last trip yesterday we had Sylvain and Robert who came with us to try saltwater fishing for their first time. With a south wind, a front coming through, and dirty water; I knew it was going to be tough fishing again. I decided to go north of Port Everglades and found some cleaner water and set up in 130'. Sylvain got rewarded with his first saltwater fish, a 100 lb. hammerhead shark that took a live goggle eye on the kite. A while later, Robert caught his first sailfish that also took a live goggle eye on the kite. So, for a first time experience they got rewarded with 2 pretty nice fish.
