{%image_id=63797%} Capt Rod went out for an overnight, long range trip a couple nights ago and just returned. There was a helluva snapper bite going on. Most of the fish were caught in the 180-250ft range, deeper water than we normally fish for snappers. Many of these were caught using live goggle eyes and pilchards. We were deep dropping them on long leaders right along the dropoff. Ballyhoo and sardines were the best dead baits. A few groupers were biting too and a few of those were lost to the taxman. Some big sharks are out there right now so you have to get your fish up quick or you're going to lose them. We didn't do any shallow stuff or we would have caught a lot more yellowtails. But we wanted to get our limit on the bigger snappers so we stayed deep. Traditionally, August and September are 2 of the best months of the year for snapper fishing. Get out there soon while the bite is hot. I'll sea ya on the water. Capt. Andy Roydhouse www.FishHeadquarters.com 754-214-7863 cell
