Hot Wahoo Action In August

Fishing has been great this month with lots of action from bonitos and big kingfish. Trolling has been producing quite well but the big "smoker" kingfish are falling victim to live baits fished from the kites, as well as flat and deep lines. Fish upwards of 40 pounds have been plentiful. The real show this month however has been my favorite, the wahoo! This past week leading up to the full moon has been great and the backside of the moon should be just as good. Look for blue water with lots of north current in 200-400 feet of water. We bump our trolling speed up to about 7.5 to 8 knots. Its fast enough to get the wahoos attention yet slow enough you can still get mahi mahi and other gamefish bites. We fish planers or trolling leads with natural and artificial baits. At 8 knots I prefer a nice double hook ballyhoo under an Islander lure or a nice sea witch. I fish one bright color like pink or orange and one dark like black and purple. Fish have been averaging 35-50 pounds with a few larger ones mixed in. Capt. Mike 954.522.4773
