Mahi Return

This time last year we had a very good run of mahi, and this year again, fishing for mahi in the Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood area has been very productive. Most of the action the past few weeks has been 10 to 30 miles offshore, around big patches of weed. On most of our offshore fishing trips, the majority of mahi have been small - called schoolies or peanuts - but these colorful fish are aggressive, provide tons of action and jumping and bring huge smiles to everyone's faces. Along with countless small dolphin (mahi), we usually see at least one per trip in the 14 to 20 lb. range. We are also finding lots of small jacks in the weeds. {%image_id=40568%} {%image_id=40567%} {%image_id=40569%} On the reef, kingfish are also making a very strong showing with numerous fish in the 5 to 10 lb. range. These fish aren't as big as the ones we were catching in July and August, but there's a lot to be said good numbers of small kingfish. {%image_id=40566%} On yesterday's trip, I noticed for the first time big schools of mullet around the inlet.
