{%image_id=48680%} There are some pretty big game fish biting in Fort Lauderdale this week. June, although not the best month of the year for sailfish (Winter is), can be a lucrative month to fish for sailfish on the reef. With all the baitfish from bonitos, to small tunas, to jacks and blue runners, the abundance of available food makes Fort Lauderdale a great place to hunt. Sailfish don't bite every day, but if you go fishing for them and know how to target them in the summer months, you can do well. Trolling is an effective way to go after sailfish and still gives you the chance to catch a variety of other species. Sailfish are surface feeders, so put your sailfish baits on the surface. Rigged ballyhoo and seawitches rigged with strips work very well. The best area is between 100-300ft of water, known as Sailfish Alley. This is the highway that sailfish use during their migration down our coast, and it is the best zone for plenty of available food. We don't catch sailfish every trip during the summer months like we sometimes do in the winter, but they are out there. We've caught several this week already. Just gotta put in your time and a little luck never hurts. Good luck to everyone fishing this week. I'll sea ya on the water. Capt. Paul Roydhouse www.FishHeadquarters.com 754-214-7863
