Boca Grande to Fort Myers tarpon fishing report

August tarpon fishing has been pretty good at times but it has also been very hot and the bite has been getting shorter as it gets hotter. Boca Grande Pass has had decent sized school of tarpon and the beaches are still holding some scattered fish. I had a good day on the beach last week using threadfin herring and I hooked a few in the pass using pinfish. The bay is also holding some good tarpon schools. The tarpon are sitting on the bottom during the heat of the day and when they decide to bite it is on fire. The only problem is that the bite is only lasting from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. During the "bite" we've been able to hook doubles and even triples. Most of the tarpon in the bay are running 60-110 pounds. The past two days has dumped over 4 inches of rain on the area and I believe that the three days of overcast skies and rain will drop the water tempature and the tarpon fishing will get much better for the rest of August. The runnoff should also push more baitfish out of the creeks and rivers and help concentrate the tarpon around these baitfish.
