Fort Myers Fishing Report - Look For Big Movement This Week

The last week of January looks like it will be a parade of cold fronts and wind. Normally this would be a bad thing! However the unseasonably warm temperatures in December and most of January 2015 have inshore water temperatures much warmer than they should be for this time of the year. As a result there are fish scattered all over. For example we have been catching big Snook on shallow flats where they normally wouldn't be in January. Spec trout seem to be just about everywhere and are in much smaller schools now than they were in November and early December. Look for the closer to normal temperatures to move the Snook into the back-country where they usually are in January. By the end of the week I would look for an increase in the size and numbers of Spec Trout inshore. Redfish continue to be hit or miss, at least for me so I can't offer any suggestions on that front. As other captains have mentioned the sheepshead seem to be most everywhere as do the sand trout as I mentioned in my last report. I will keep you up to date as the week progresses and let you how what the bite is. This should help you plan a trip for the upcoming weekend while everyone else is home watching the big game!
