Fall Fishing Is In Full Swing Greetings; Well, with the wind laying down and the days getting shorter our fall fishing season is in full swing. Migrating glass minnows and thread herring have kept the pelagic predators that follow them in hot pursuit. Bottom fishing took a big hit last week with the red tide that passed through. Seems like a fish kill took place from about five miles out to twenty five miles. Luckily for us there is plenty of action from the Kings, Spanish, Redfish, Cobia, and a cast of others. Inshore action has centered around the artificial reefs. Bait concentrations have had the Mackerel active early and late each day. The wrecks and piles are holding good snapper and redfish populations. Many of these Reds are well above the maximum size. Enjoy the fight and be sure they are revived before released. At the passes are very active places on the out going tide. Ladyfish, Mackerel, Jacks, and Redfish are the main targets. Offshore you can find a good variety of fish. We have caught legal redfish, big doormat flounder, nice sized Mangrove snapper. In addition we have been catching plenty of trophy sized Cudas up to twenty pounds while King Mackerel fishing. Speaking of Kings no one place is consistent. But generally keep moving and fishing and you will hit kings. We had our best luck trolling in the vicinity of the bait pods with spoons, but I have heard of some great fish being taken on live bait. Have a great week and watch the weather.
