Marco Island, Ft. Myers & Boca Grande

Tropical Depression cleans the slate. Before the last four days of rain and high winds from the southwest the snook fishing was very good and the tarpon fishing wasn't bad either. The slate is now clean and everyone must go out and figure out new patterns on check out the bait holes and see what's going on there also. Before the storms the snook were thick in the passes form Marco Is;and to Boca Grande. We were catching double digit numbers of snook most afternoons with pinfish and thread herring. Falling tides produced the best bites. I don't see the storms effecting the snook fishing that much though. Last week we had strong east winds which made sight fishing off the beaches very good from Sanibel all the way north of Boca Grande. We saw plenty of daisy chaining pods but getting them to bite was another story. In three days of fishing we only had 5 stike and landed only one about 75 pounds. When the storms hit the winds changed to the west and 5-7 foot seas totally ruined and chance of catching a tarpon. It will take a couple of days of light winds and warm temperatures for the tarpon fishing to bounce back. Maybe they will be hungry when they get back.
