Fall Frenzy! The fishing the past few weeks has been fast and furious. Nearshore, mackerel, bluefish, bonito, and jack crevelle are keeping everyone busy. Inshore, snook, redfish, trout, snapper and jacks are feeding well. The large passes are also provididng excellent fishing with large mangrove snapper and medium size gag grouper. Snook fishng has been solid with catches of 10-20 snook per trip common. Keepers aren't as common as last month but if you move around enough a limit is probable. Live sardines have been the hot bait and they are everywhere. Redfish are still schooling along the bars of Pine Island Sound and the points deep into the 10,000 Islands. Live bait has done the best for us. Sardines and pinfish are my choice. Trout have been moving into the upper 10,000 islands. Most of these fish are in the upper slot around 20 inches. Hoards of small trout are taking soft plastics on the grass flats of Pine Island Sound. Bonito or false albacore tuna, spanish mackerel and bluefish are schooling with the bait schools offshore. To find them run a few miles offshore and look for birds and you'll find the fish. Live sardines, diamond jigs and topwater plugs are working well. The forecast for the nest few weeks is still very good. This is some of the best fishing of the year. Only the days right after a cold front are a little slow but other than that it's a fishing frenzy. Good Luck! Capt. Scott Hughes Blackwater Charters 941-575-2389
