Best Tarpon fishing of the season. This pst week was the best tarpon fisihng of the season. Yes, that includes the fishing from May and June. Good tarpon in mid to late summer is no seceret for those in the know and do their homework. Post spawn tarpon move into the bays and flats to feed for the rest of the summer before they migrate awy for the winter. This is where we usually put up some of the bst numbers of the year. Here's the catch. The fish are not easy to find. To find that special bite one must spend days patterning and locating the majority of the post spawn tarpon school. There are always of few scatered fishing in the rivers and canals but to get on that special bite you must locate the "mother lode" if you can do that you have some of the best tarpon fishing of your life. For a few days this week we did just that and fishing was fantastic. We put dozens of fish into the air almost every day and the fish were big. Most were over 100 pounds with many over the 150 mark. If tarpon aren't your thing, then catch and release snook fishing is as good as it get right now. Snook are all over the beaches and in the passes. We have been using live scaled sardines to catch snook up to 10 pounds. If you get on a good bite, it's not uncommon to catch up to 50 snook per morning when the winds are light right now. Redfish, snapper and few cobia have been in the mix as well. We've been getting the redfish and snapper while I've been targeting snook and cobia have showing now and then while we've been catching bait. I've been catching all of this on live sardines including the tarpon. Good Luck ! Capt.
