Plenty of Tarpon

Offshore: Plenty of action, tarpon, cobia, snook, permit, snapper from 5-20 plus miles out. Crews gathered up pass crabs and small blue crabs from the permit and tarpon bash and even hooked up a few fat and sassy cobia around Knapp's Point. Other reports put the bite up around Redfish Pass to Boca. Permit ate Gulp shrimp and crab chunks as well, not bad. Weather helped out a tad but there still are some morning rains to contend with. The close marks were generous again with snapper, cobia and big redfish all eating shrimp and pins. Typical summer weather pattern has been promised buy the Weather gurus we'll see. The beaches and pass mouth had a friendly mixed bag bite. Backbay: Doesn't get a whole lot better. Well it's never to good but reds, trout and snook were all on a nice early morning chew. Good reports up and down our region, bring lots a shrimp. Gulps, flies and cutstocks all took a share off the bite. Night snooker were in their glory with big liners all eating livies and softplastics. My crews found nice red action in Estero Bay as did others. Pine Island Sound was hot with good action up around Regal and Joslyn keys. Tarpon are rolling around the flats off behind Redfish and Captiva pass; threads, crabs and softplastics filled the menu. Trout were slamming softplastics, topwater plugs and flies, just off the Ding Darling. Capt. Ron Kowalyk www.fishswfla.com [email protected] 239-267-9312
