Red Tide is all over us in Southwest Florida. In three words or less, it sucks. Gag Grouper, Snapper, Big Redfish, and Gator Trout are laying upside down in The Gulf and The passes. It stinks literally and the sight of it all is very depressing. BUT, where the red Tide is Not, the fishing is Hot. Cobia are running along the edges of Matlacha Pass. Find the big schools of rays and you will find the Cobia. A pinfish on a popping cork is a lethal presentation. Trout appear in excellent numbers along the grass flats of Pine Island Sound especially along the south end of Chino Island. The "A" frames around the Sanibel Causeway are holding righteous size trout. Redfish schools are prowling around the Ding Darling/Tarpon Bay area. The redfish are very skidish so stealth scores fish. Nearshore Gulf of Mexico Fishing (My Specialty) sucks right now. I wish I had better news but I would rather give you straight scoop than blow smoke up your posterior. GiddyUp!
