Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

With Gasoline headed towards $100.00 per gallon, I've decided to get to know the area in and around St. James City (Pine Island) intimately. My fantasy would be to take some Saudi Shieks fishing. Shark Fishing! Here's the latest scoop on Fishing in and around Pine Island Redfish: Large schools of nomadic Reds are schooling up and roaming the Matlacha area. Try just south of the "Fishingest Bridge in the World." Very few of these Big Reds are under 25LBS so take your Quantum Cabo Model 30 or 40. These fish might be a little too much for the Quantum Catalyst 20 we were throwing at them. Throwing a Capt. Mike's Gold Spoon is your ticket for a hookup. These fish are very easy to spot. If you locate them, do NOT throw into the middle of the school. Pick off the Dudes on the outside. Pompano: Pompano fishing is on fire. Unfortunately I can't disclose where because the illegal net jerks will go and wipe out the fish. The illegal netting takes place at night and I wish these bastards jail time. Tarpon: Poons are all over the place. I have found some cool schools in Pine Island Sound. Mostly 60-80LB Class. The bait of choice has been Pinfish under a Key West Float rig. Spanish Mackerel are all over Pine Island Sound. I have never seen so many inshore. These fish are very good to eat. The secret is to get the macks on ice within 30 seconds. "GiddyUp"
