Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Well, summer time is here and the inshore fish know it and they are in their summer time pattern for feeding. This means you need to fish early in the morning or in the afternoon after one of the rain storms that we are having. TROUT - Summer time trout fishing isn't that hard to figure out. The trout will be shallow early in the morning and taking top water baits. As the sun comes up and the heat of the day increases the trout will be in deeper water and you will need to switch to pigfish or live shrimp ( if you can find any). There were a lot of trout catches being reported this week from places like harbor Branch, Round Island and the Moorings. But, the hot spot this past week has been the area around Midway Road with reports of trout to 8 pounds being cauhgt when using a top water bait. TARPON - The tarpon are in Big Mud Creek but are being very picky about what they eat. If you get a few nice live mullet you just might have the fight of your life. There are plenty of tarpon there it just a matter of if they want to eat or not. REDFISH - The redfish pattern has been about the same as the trout only with a different bait. The redfish are feeding on small crabs early in the morning and when the day starts to heat up you need to switch to finger mullet. There was a good number of redfish catches on Wednesday and Tursday from around the Blue Hole area. The redfish weighed in went up to 12 pounds. SNAPPER - The snapper are in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and have been feeding on live shrimp when you were lucky enough to find them. There were reports of mangroves to 3 pounds being cauhgt on Thursday. SURF - The whiting are still very strong in the surf. Any beach area is producing fish as fast as you can land them. Fresh dead shrimp is still the bait of chioce. Until next week, good fishing.
