Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Inshore fishing has been good most of this past week with trout giving the anglers the most action from just before daylight until about 8:00am. Top water baits like a Zara Spook or a Top Dog fished close to the shore have taken the most fish. After about 8:00am you will want to switch to a live pigfish or a live shrimp (if you can find one)and fish them in 3 to 5 feet of water. Catch and release snook have been feeding around the North Bridge and the Ft. Pierce Inlet with the best times being just after dark and just before daylight. Live bait like a pinfish or a mullet are hard to beat. The snapper are making their way into the river with mangroves to 3 pounds being reported. The Inlet and the channel edges are the places to try with the bite being better at night. There are plenty of sheepshead around the channel edges and the bridges. Try fiddler crabs and live or frozen shrimp. Now if you are looking for big action, try you luck with a tarpon. They seem to be all over the river at places like the channels by Harbor Branch all the way down the river to Big Mud Creek. Try a live mullet and hold on. The surf has been giving up a lot of whiting and croakers. A good spot to try is the area around Ocean Village. Until next week, good fishing. Capt. Joe Ward
