Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

FEBRURAY 25, 2010 INSHORE - The inshore fishing had picked up a good deal until today when the temp was 35 and the wind was blowing out the NW at 20 to 30! On the days that the wind was down and temps were up the fishing was good. There has been a good bluefish and spanish mackerel bite in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and in the Turning Basin. These fish have not been picking and are taking just about anything you can throw at them. The sheepshead bite has been about the best thing going with fish to 5 pounds being caught. Try around just about any structure you can get close to. The sheepshead have been taking small live shrimp. There have been a few nice trout being reported at places like Bear Point and at Harbor Branch. Try a soft plastic bait in the deeper cuts. There has only been a few redfish reported and most of the reports were that they are being very picky as to what they will eat. OFFSHORE - The offshore bite did pick up over the weekend and the first part of the week. There were a good number of dolphin come into the docks -- 10 to 15 pound range. They were caught between 130 and 180 feet of water on naked ballyhoo. The cobia are making a showing again. Gay Faircloth came by the dock with one and I weighed it for him -- a 60 pounder. He caught him on a blue runner down near the power plant. Still a few reports about sails coming from the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Most were seen jumping and only one reported a hook-up. The spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks are all along the beaches. All a few reports of nice whiting coming from the surf fishermen. TEEN ANGLERS - After rescheduling and canceling the last two inshore tournament the local chapter of Teen Anglers did get to fish last Sunday.
