Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

APRIL 21, 2011 INSHORE - There has been a good redfish bite this week when fishing around the docks along both North & South Indian River Drive. A live shrimp or a white bait has been the ticket. Try pitching them around the docks on high tide. There has also been a good trout bite with fish going to 6 & 1/2 pounds. Try a live bait and fish around the sand bars to the south in the Intercoastal. The best time has been when the tide is about half way down on the out going tide. The catch and release soon action in the Ft. Pierce Inlet remains good on the falling tide for anglers using live baits like a pinfish, pigfish, mullet or greenies and fished on the bottom. The snapper bite along the channel edges is getting better everyday. Try using a small live shrimp. OFFSHORE - Not too much to talk about except for a handful of dolphin being caught any where from 80 to 800 feet of water. A skirted ballyhoo seemed to best the best bet. No reports of big dolphin or fish in big numbers. The best bite in the past has been the last week in April and the first 3 weeks in May. I did have several reports about nice size cobia this week. Most if the fish were caught in 40 feet of water and the anglers were using jigs. The kingfish bite remains good in 30 to 60 feet of water and most anglers were using spoons with a piece of strip bait or a live bait like a blue runner or mullet. The bottom fishing remains steady over the reefs and wrecks. TEEN ANGLERS - Sunday - April 17th was the last inshore tournament of the school year for the Treasure Coast Chapter of Teen Anglers. Trout was the fish of the day with 10 fish coming onto the scales. Helen Kinchen too 1st place in the high school division with a 5lb. 5oz trout and Chad Stanley took 1st place in the middle school division with a 3lb. 1oz. trout. The fish off for the Teen Angler of the Year will be held on Sunday - May 1st.
