Hernando Beach inshore fishing good

The inshore fishing off Hernando Beach has been good. We are finally settling into a Summer pattern which is finally giving anglers consistent fishing. The red fish bite has been very productive around the high tide. Target rocky mangrove shore line with mullet activity. The best production has been live pin fish or white bait free lined to these areas on a 3/0 circle hook. Finding white bait can be challenging at time, but the red fish and occasional snook will inhale a lively white bait put in the area. To find bait, I start by looking for them on the surface on a calm morning. Then I go to areas I have located bait in the past and draw them to the boat with a combination of tropcal fish food and jack mackerel. When they get schooled up near the boat, just one good throw of the cast net and you should have enough bait for the day. The trout fishing in the deeper flats is heating up. We are finding good numbers of quality trout in 7 - 10 Ft of water. Drifting grassy bottom in these depths is a great way to cover ground and locate fish. I like to have my clients bounce 1/4 oz jigs with white GULPS or Lil Johns in the grass. Good luck out there, and tight lines! Call to book your trip. Capt.
