Spring fishing in Hernando Beach Florida

Well fishing is blossoming into spring, a little different this year. The cold fronts have the fish a little messed up as the sun warms the water in the daytime and the cold night's cools the water allowing major confusion to the fish. I was chatting about fishing with a friend of mine who belongs to a local club and he told me the redfish was almost extinct from the weigh-in, but the sea trout fishing was great. The Spanish mackerel have moved on but not all. Some nice big mackerel have stayed here in our area. The mackerel are eating everything including our artificial baits moved fast. The slower fished artificial baits are catching trout and shallow water grouper. Just a note we are catching keeper size grouper in twelve foot of water and have to release them as the season is closed. Offshore waters are baron of boats. Just maybe people are sick of spending tons of money on fuel only to catch and release fish. Everything is biting on most of the places I stop to fish. We have caught many over thirty inch gag grouper plus too many to count short red grouper. I was wondering how they expect the red grouper to grow to twenty inches as they allow the commercial grouper fisherman to keep them at eighteen inches. I have no problem with the commercial people just the people making the rules. If it is ok to keep eighteen inch grouper for the commercial fishermen I think everyone should be able to keep eighteen inch red grouper. I also understand the recreational fisherman should not keep as many as our commercial fisherman but fair is fair sizes should be the same for all people. (this is my opinion only not the feelings of this website) Thank for reading my report Capt. Frank Bourgeois http://www.alwaysfishing.com
