There's been a pretty good wahoo bite the last 2 days down here in Islamorada. We've caught wahoo both with live bait and high speed trolling. Yesterday there where several large packs of wahoo spotted in the 120 to 150 foot depths. After catching a few sails and muttons in the morning we set up where a friend of mine had spotted the wahoo about an hour before but could not get any of them to eat. Our timing must have been lucky because after about ten minutes we had a wahoo chase a live cigar minnow up to the boat that we where winding in to change out on one of the riggers. At first it didn't look like we would be able to get a bite out of him, but after throwing a bunch of "freebie" cigar minnows and teasing him for a few minutes we got him to fire up and eat a bait. About 15 minutes after we hooked him and started to get close the whole pack of about a dozen wahoo followed him up to the boat and it was "game on" from there. We had about a 45 minute flurry with at least one wahoo on the whole time. We wound up catching 4 out of 8 and had as many as 3 wahoo fighting over baits at once just 20 feet behind the boat including a couple the skyrocketed about 8 feet out of the water chasing the baits. We caught all of those on 20# spinning tackle. All in all a very exciting afternoon and great day.
