Tarpon...yeah the way they should be pursued. Shallow water, casting and slow trolling. The Buchman bridge area of the St. Johns River. They arrive usually around August, to feed on the 1/2 acre schools of Mullet or Pogies. Let alone, SHRIMP? But, after Tropical Storm BERYL The southern reaches of Duval County waters are still slow. Beryl picked up two bouys at the end of the Mayport Jetties. So yeah, it was a huge storm! More wind than rain. I know, I live in the woods just seconds away from the ICW. The winds were fierce. Did this storm mess up the fishing? YOU BET! And around the Buchman Bridge things the day after were NON-exsistant. But a few days later, they picked up. But still weren't charter worthy down that way. So, back to Mayport it is. Here's a large Trout I caught while doing R&D down riiver under the Buchman Bridge. {%image_id=27215%} {%image_id=27212%} I love that area, no tugs, no navy, no ships, and no Coasties. At over 3 miles wide and with a huge bridge. Usually, it's the place to be this time of year. {%image_id=27213%} {%image_id=27214%} "IF" we don't have a storm like Beryl. {%image_id=26863%} Want to fish? Want to try your hand at calm St. Johns River fishing, with no waves, and no one else around? Visit: www.captdaves.com Each passing week the fishing in that area will get better, and bounce back. I can't wait to see Tarpon in the area!! -Cast -Troll -Live bait Don't forget about my 2 hr kids trips, for the "little ones", this summer.
